| Cenev: Kokino Observatory Should be Protected and Promoted
(MIA, 21.04.2005) - Kokino Observatory which has been ranked fourth on the list of old planetariums released by US space agency NASA should be protected and promoted, according to the head of the Planetarium Gjore Zenev.
“Unfortunately, we do not have big money and we hope for support by the state so that we can make the observatory a tourist attraction,” Cenev said at a press conference yesterday.
Kokino archaeological site covers an area with a 100-meter radius and isset on two scaled platforms. It was discovered two and a half years ago when great amounts of ceramic items from the Bronze Era and a settlement. Kokino Megalithic observatory, which is located at Tatikjev Kamen near Staro Nagoricane, has been ranked fourth in the world. Thus, the 3,800-year old Macedonian observatory has joined the company of Abu Simbel in Egypt, Stonehenge in Britain and Ancor Wat in Cambodia.
